Jungle House guests can rest assured that a portion of their lodging money has been dedicated to Matapalo's social and touristic infrastructure.
Last year Jungle House spearheaded the "Bandera Azul" campaign, an ecological program which rewards touristic beach communities for their efforts to maintain high standards of order, safety and cleanliness. Unprecedented in it's history, the National Committee of the "Blue Flag" program awarded Matapalo Beach, a first year participant, a 2 star flag for their efforts.
The additional stars were awarded due to the completion of the following community projects: A lifeguard program, regular scheduled waste collection, trash receptacles placed in the community, public showers and toilet facilities, a Tourist Information Center (thanks to the generous and kind contribution of Ana and Richard Sutton of Quepolandia), a recycle center, as well as public service signs along the Main Coastal highway, and within the Matapalo community.
In January, Charles Berghammer, owner of Jungle House, was invited to visit the Costa Rican "White House" in San Jose, where the current President Abel Pacheco awarded him the flag for our dedicated efforts within the Matapalo community.
