Matapalo has several international restaurants which dot the beach front community. They range in variety from French at "La Terraza del Sol", German at "El Coquito", and Swiss at both "La Piedra Buena" and "El Albergue Suizo".

One of our favorite places for an overall great dining experience, whether lunch or dinner, is at Bahari Beach. Here Ludwig (Austrian) and Andrea (Hungarian) will take care of you as if you were old friends. By the end of your stay in Matapalo, you will be! They serve classical European cuisine, fresh seafood caught daily by the local fisherman, as well as some typical Costa Rican favorites. Conveniently located adjacent to Junglehouse, they are also an easy pick for breakfast, all you have to do is crawl out of bed and belly up to that great Costa Rican coffee on the table!

If your looking for just a great American Burger with fries, you can find this at Tico Gringo. Named thus as Betty is the "Tica", and Eddie is the "Gringo" from Miami. If your into beer on tap, here's where you'll spend countless hours of entertaining conversation with Eddie as he tells "his side of the Matapalo story!"

Our favorite personal pick for evening dining is at the Espresso del Pacifico, located just steps next door to Felipe's local grocery store in Matapalo. Here Jean Louis and Suzanne will entice you with good drink to start as they offer the largest drink menu in Matapalo! Suzannes salad's are simply works of art, so don't skip this course. Our suggestion for Main Course here is the Filet Mignon, complete with Cafe de Paris butter! In addition, they also make the best pizza! Don't miss them on your dining out agenda!

If you came to Rome to do as the Romans, there is our favorite, the "Soda Chasa". Run by local Costa Ricans Michael and his grandmother, you'll find a host of sumptuos Costa Rican treats, served promptly with a smile. Very reasonably priced, and in our opinion, the best overall dining experience for your money.

Finally for breakfast we suggest our neighbors at Dos Palmas. Steve (British) and AC (Norwegian) will start your day with any number of delicious options including fresh banana pancakes. Located beach front, adjacent to Junglehouse, this is where you'll want to get a good start to your adventurous Matapalo day!
